At Royal Victoria Dock West, the Floating Park is one of three Priority Projects set out in the Vision. It will bring nature, people and water closer together, transforming part of the historic dock into a greener, calmer and more welcoming public place.
The Floating Park – set out in pp76-89 of the Vision – complements the proposed Floating Wellness and Floating Residential projects. Together, they will help shape a connected waterside environment that balances activity with quiet moments, and everyday use with long-term environmental benefit.
A greener dock, for people and nature
The Floating Park will enhance biodiversity across the dock, introducing new habitats that support wildlife. This includes floating planting beds, habitat structures and nature-based design to improve air and water quality and strengthen the dock’s resilience over time.
Importantly, it will enhance access to nature in a part of London where green space is limited. The park will provide new spots to relax, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the dock as part of daily life.
Designed to work with the dock and the city
The Floating Park is part of a long-term, carefully phased approach to regeneration. It is designed to sit alongside active uses on the water, seasonal events and the evolving life of the dock – preserving its openness while making it more inviting year-round.
By introducing shade, shelter and greenery, the park will also support climate resilience, helping the dock adapt to hotter summers, manage flood risk, and remain a welcoming public space as the climate changes.
A place to connect
The Floating Park will offer new opportunities for people to gather, enjoy time together, and feel at home by the water. As the Vision develops, it will play a vital role in shaping Royal Victoria Dock West as London’s next major waterside destination: open, inclusive, and rooted in everyday life.
Next steps
The Floating Park is being developed alongside Floating Wellness and Floating Residential, within a single long-term framework guided by shared design principles, environmental standards and commitments to public access, safety and quality.
In early 2026, elements of the Floating Park will be incorporated into project briefs for Wellness and Residential, while the funding strategy for a more substantial stand-alone park is developed further with advisers.
